Insomniac's Lullaby

Can I trade in a memory for something a little more kind?
As I dance in this daydream under fast clouds and moonbeams and pines.
I try not to lose sleep for nothing, but then
if I stay awake I might dream you again.
So I'll wrestle with dawn, to keep it from coming on time...

I step outside and the chorus frogs ring in my ears.
Can I find solace in solitude if I'm not the only one here?
The curve of the sky shines out of these pools
Just muddy reflections of a starry-eyed fool
to this round of insomniac lullabies sung in spring of each year.

The wind makes old leaves swirl and scatter, as if phantoms they rise.
And the new leaves will turn in this spring as they stretch towards the skies.
It may be too early for bud-burst and blooms;
for this silent explosion of passion consumed
so I'll pass the night wondering what you might see in my eyes...
I'll pass the night wondering what you might see in my eyes.
