Livin' in the Country (trilogy, part I)
I’m livin’ in the city, I’m in traffic all day,
I dream of the country, a piece of land far away...
Gonna move to the country, out where daffodils bloom,
There are oak trees by the roadsides and there’s plenty of room.
Gonna build me a house—there’s an old patch of woods,
a developer told me, that the real estate’s good...
Livin’ in the country, sunning out in the yard,
playing frisbee and tennis, when I’m not working hard...
Out here in the spring time, the allergies bloom,
Gonna take a few trees out, gonna air out all the rooms.
gonna spray for the insects, gonna fumigate the lawn,
It’ll stop the diseases, once the ‘skeeters are gone...
Livin’out in the country, where the people are kind,
gonna greet all the neighbors, we’ll all have a good time.
There are all sorts of neighbors, they’re coming in in droves,
moved here just like I did, to build homes out by the groves..
Livin’ in the country, you’ve got to drive far,
to get to the grocery, or to w*#$mart by car,
But this town is still growing, they’re putting in new roads,
There’ll be shops coming soon as they change the building codes.
gonna be more convenient, to go shopping or to meet
all my friends out at the restaurants, more good places to eat.
Now this small town is changing, the crowds they have grown,
And you don’t know your neighbors, and the lawns are all mown,
It’s become just like a city; stand still traffic every day...
I dream of the country—a piece of land far away,
(So I’m) Gonna move to the country, with the redbuds in bloom,
and elm trees by the roadsides, where there’s plenty of room.
Gonna build me a home—on a few acres of woods,
a developer told me, that the real estate’s good...
