Lucky Numbers

Chorus:
Lucky numbers are raining down--they swell and slide into the gutters.
Lucky numbers are falling from the trees--making room for millions of others.
I know I don't appreciate these things like I could
but it's hard to say if it's bad luck or it's good.
Will everything wash out with the tides the way they should
from this sea of lucky numbers?

He takes his chances, all the time
Wading through the toll booths and the endless traffic lines
He looks up at the billboard saying how much he could win
Buys a ticket to a place that beats the place he is in.
Life's taken precious things away left memories instead
Sometimes only luck can take away the fear inside his head...

He used to read about religion for a measure of control
For a world out of proportion--everything will play its role.
Now he reads the TV light to measure what he's worth...
These numbers ticking tales of trade from halfway round the earth
It's his last hope; his silent prayer; the thing that brings him down
But he is staring, mesmerized each time they come around...

Chorus

These signs have no clear meaning, and they are everywhere
He still takes comfort where the trees spread their green into thin air...
On a warm day, on a storm front he can see the birds go by
He traces out their paths far in the disappearing sky...
To a time that's free of worry; where his family is safe...
Until it comes at least this is one dream that he can chase.

Chorus
