Ocean Rain
Now the beachwash flies surround the sun, and swarm until it’s gone
Forget the times we laid out in the sand.
Sometimes I cry like rain into the ocean, you’d hardly even notice me unwind
or reaching for your hand.
But on a bus with standing room only, I couldn’t see you
But I felt you change your mind
The mountains rolled by…
I could look for you on the horizon, and see you waving back
I set my sights and swear I’ll be there soon.
Sometimes I felt the stars broadcast their sings to me, believed in constellations
I could see their light in the blazing afternoons…
But the far away lure of a dream melts away
like the pools in the distance on the road.
Now I hear the sirens and the parties, their silence is a warning--
see the shiny broken glass strewn upon the ground.
I feel your voice in the sound of everything I hear
I shake myself and maybe I’ll come round.
But the pages are falling away--burn so fast—see the spark—watch it close
watch it die
and never come back…
